CHOOSING THE RIGHT CONTRACTOR

Choosing a paving contractor is an important decision.  Your business or commercial building is important to you and to your clients.  A new entrance or a new parking lot will enhance the value of any apartment complex or office building. The quality of the work you receive makes a difference in the smoothness, attractiveness and the durability of your pavement.  A buyer or client’s first impression is most important.   You want the first impression to be a good one and you want to be sure the improvements you make last.

BUILDING ON A SOLID BASE


The most important part of good asphalt  paving is to build a strong, well compacted sub-base.   This process begins by excavating any poor quality surface material or existing asphalt to a sub-grade, or the base of the project.  If soils are particularly unstable, additional surface materials should be excavated and sub-base added.  The sub-grade should be smoothed and well compacted.  Then a sub-base should be built using crushed stone or an asphalt binder or both.  This sub-base should be of sufficient strength to support the weight of the type of vehicles expected on the final surface.  The compacted stone sub-base should have minimal deflection while being rolled or compacted.   Building a good base for the asphalt is the most critical part of the job.

Asphalt pavement is ideal for parking lots and entrances as it provides versatility to meet construction and design criteria.  Asphalt is economical, quickly constructed and is pleasing in appearance.   Additionally, asphalt is durable, non-slippery and if constructed correctly, requires a minimum of maintenance.  Capital Paving  uses standard highway,  parking and driveway designs that have proven  successful in the Triangle Area of North Carolina.  Some of the factors affecting design are 1) Vehicle weight and number of vehicles 2) Sub grade support (Stone Base) 3) Properties of materials in the pavement structure and 4) the environment.   All materials used by Capital Paving for all our work is obtained from NC Department of Transportation approved sites.
